Lead by Fran Butterfoss, PhD, an expert in coalitions, and Michelle Charters, MPH, Director of Project Immunize Virginia.

Media Relations and Effective Messaging: How to Have a Shot at Success
CDC and National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC) will present “Media Relations and Effective Messaging: How to have a Shot at Success,” a pre-conference media training workshop. The training team with over 25 years of communication experience includes Glen Nowak, former CDC Division of Media Relations Director and current Senior Advisor to the Director of CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Disease; Tim Church, Director of Communications for the Washington State Department of Health and past president of the National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC); and Ken August Development Director at NPHIC and Chief of Risk Communication at the California Department of Public Health. These seasoned communication professionals will lead participants through an interactive training that will provide both beginners and experienced spokespersons with real life insights and tips on effective media engagement, developing effective media messages, and strategies on successfully delivering your message. This interactive training will also include role playing, hands on exercises, and opportunities to practice the interviewing skills you just learned. Join in as we all have a shot at success and some New Orleans style fun!
